Julia Symmes Cobb is the Andean bureau chief for Reuters, based in Bogotá, where she leads a team of correspondents covering Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Guyana and Suriname.

She has reported on political upheaval in Venezuela - including the removal of Nicolas Maduro - four Colombian presidential elections, the 2016 peace accord with the FARC and the fragile processes that followed it, Ecuador’s descent into cartel violence and major natural disasters.

She has repeatedly returned to Colombia’s disappeared, from pre-peace deal searches for remains and forensic teams taking blood samples in provincial towns, to ongoing exhumations taking place around the country.

She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh. She is currently writing her first book, about Colombia’s disappeared.
